So by now you are wondering what could this possibly be?
The word is "annoying". Client after client; person upon person; most places I go I hear the word. I have also found myself using it with frequency.
You may be asking yourself, "what's the big deal?"
As I previously stated the word itself is not the real issue. However; what it represents is. It is my belief that the major issues with the frequent use of this word is the expectation. Do we really expect to be able to navigate life without being annoyed?
Is it even possible? Even more importantly is it realistic?
That in itself is the issue. It seems that so many of us are living our lives with the expectation that we should never be annoyed with anything. And when we are annoyed it's perfectly okay to voice our objection and expect those who are annoying us to change.
Is this the result of a pluralistic society?
Furthermore it appears that even though the expectation is continually unmet it's never changed. This maybe what is truly bothersome for me.
Maybe we all need to take a realistic look at our expectations for life and give them an adjustment.
My good friend Joe Martino has taught me a few valuable life lessons:
Life is tough so be tougher.
Life is not fair so get over it.
Life changes so adjust.
Life is short so make it count.
Recently he has added:
If you want a great life it has to be about something greater than you are.
I would like to add:
Life is and will be annoying so accept it and adjust.
