In short Mike has said that when we feel better we think better; when we feel better about ourselves we think better about ourselves and therefore we make better decisions. When we make better decisions our performance at work increases and therefore increasing our general sense of well being.
Now these are not Mike's words this is my interpretation.
Mike does go on to talk about the point that happy employees are better employees and that leaders/managers should be very much interested and invested in the happiness of their workers. To this I am very much agreed!
My personal interest lays more with the point of achieving good mental health generally effects every part of our lives. This point further reinforces points that I have made in earlier blog posts regarding the importance of knowing yourself and doing the hard work to sort out our baggage/issues to become better, healthier people that function as contributing adults to the world we live in.
I believe that Mike's post also reinforces that we cannot compartmentalize our lives. When there are issues or un-health in one are of our lives it will effect other areas. Parts of our lives cannot be mutually exclusive from each other.
Summary: It is important for us all to continue to strive for overall health so that we can live the life that we want to live and be the person that we long to be.
