Life is fully of changes; some major and some are rather trivial. We know as parents that those big changes can be rather trying and that we often times need to help our children navigate the transition. We also know that when those big days come that we need to be there.
Experiencing the major events with our children and showing our support of them in their endeavors is very important and of course good parents are going to show up.
What about all the other days? I will contend that it’s that “other days” that really matter. It’s imperative that we as parents show up everyday.
It is my belief as a parent that it is my responsibility to show up everyday. After all it’s in the normal, average days that we really get to know our children. It is in the everyday conversations that we can teach and impart wisdom. Everyday we need to be supporting and demonstrating that we with our children, on their side, reinforcing their good choices and redirecting them from their bad ones.
My girls don’t only need me on their “big days”; they need me everyday to make their “big days” even better!
So do your children; show up today, and tomorrow, and the next day…
